    Vesalius Trust Annual Auction

Expect great deals on digital equipment, software and more! The Vesalius Trust Auction "Artfest" will be held during his year's AMI Annual Meeting:

    Raffle Drawing
The Vesalius Trust will hold its annual Raffle at the Association of Medical Illustrators' annual meeting in Boston. Tickets will be sold during the Boston meeting to the meeting attendees for the chance to win one of three valuable prizes. Although the actual prizes are determined at the meeting, in recent years two free AMI meeting registrations for the following yearÕs annual meeting have been included as prizes. The Vesalius Trust raffle tickets are reasonably priced at $5 apiece or 5 tickets for $20 as to allow most meeting registrants to participate in this fun event. Although one raffle ticket has the potential to win, some participants choose to purchase multiple raffle tickets in order to increase their chance of winning a prize. The prize winning tickets are chosen before the live auction begins.

    Silent Auction
The 2006 Vesalius Trust annual Silent Auction will be held at the AMI Boston meeting at the Museum of Science event, Saturday evening (August 5th). Donations for the Silent Auction will be solicited from AMI members and are then displayed on tables during the event for bidding. Bid sheets are displayed with each item for auction and the highest bidder receives the item and the conclusion of the event. Included in past auctions have been fine art pieces, medical illustrations, natural science illustrations, small 3-D pieces, surgical instruments for drawing reference, limited edition prints, new and old medical books, computer software, and many other items of interest.

    Live Auction
The 2008 Vesalius Trust's Live Auction will also be held at the AMI Boston meeting at the Museum of Science event, Saturday evening (August 5th). Included in past Live Auctions have been beautiful oil paintings by Deb Raven, other fine art pieces, original medical illustrations, framed illustrations from our AMI charter members, animation software and many other specialty items of interest. These are high value items and many having great historical significance.

Heart Art: The Vesalius Trust asked about 2 dozen medical illustrators to prepare a small signed works of art of the human heart. Each heart image is an 8 inch by 8 inch original painting, drawing, doodle, cartoon, etc. (black & white or color) that will then be framed up with others as composite groups. The rendering technique was completely up to each of the artists. The Veslaius Trust will make up several of these large framed composites (each approximately 16" x 24") for auction at the upcoming AMI meeting in August. Proceeds will go to the Vesalius Trust scholarship fund for the students. Click here to see details

Part of the Live Auction includes the rip-roaring and somewhat ribald T-Shirt Auction. This event is an all-out boisterous bidding war for original (sometimes very unique) T-shirts, designed and illustrated by faculty members (or alumni) of one of our schools of medical illustration. The T-shirts are modeled for the audience by student volunteers, and the young and old graduates from each school pool their respective contributions as a group in order to advance their school's shirt in the auction ranking. In the past, T-shirt designs have included depictions of large southern cockroaches, as well as designs of a more anatomical nature. The school's T-shirt that receives the highest total pledged amount from the audience is designated the winner. A representative from the "winning" school has the privilege of selecting first from the prizes for this event that are given to the school. A designee for the second place T-shirt gets second choice and so on. The individual bidder receives the pleasure of supporting both their favorite school and the Trust.

Proceeds of the Vesalius Trust Raffle and Auctions continue to allow the Trust to support the AMI annual meeting and to fund numerous annual Vesalius Trust scholarships.

Vesalius Trust Art and Anatomy Tour of Paris 2001

Why, you might ask, an art and anatomy tour of Paris? Other than the cuisine and wine, there were many great reasons for the trip. Andreas Vesalius of Brussels, namesake of the Vesalius Trust, studied medicine at the Univeristˇ de Paris from 1533 to 1536. Vesalius, like other med students, is believed to have learned his anatomy by reading Galen and visiting the abattoirs and boucheries of Paris. Among the many relevant sights we would see are the catacombs, the morphology lab at the Beaux-Arts, and the national anatomy museums...
